"Good Things" sesh

Hey there, because of another project that we have been doing, I have not been able to work on my 20% time project very much. The blog post prompt for today talks about having a "good things" sesh and I am going to answer the questions that are there. One of the hardest things that I have done so far in this project is trying to learn how to code. I am getting better at it by watching tutorial videos and reading about the program. My friend is also coding a game and we have been sharing our problems with each other. One thing that I have learned that I think will be helpful in the future is coding. Even if I don't use it in the future, I am glad that I tried it. Catch you later.

Starting to Code

Hey there, I am posting because I have just made some progress. The game is going to be a game that is similar to the arcade game Asteroids. I have started coding the game and am getting help from tutorial videos. So far I have coded the ship movement and have the sprite for it ready. I am really enjoying this project so far and can not wait to work on it more. Catch you later.

More Progress

Hey there, to be honest I haven't done much in the past week. I have looked up videos of how to use the software that I have. I have also drawn some ideas for a main character. Other than that I need to get to work with coding and making animations for the characters. I have not been able to contact one of the developers that I was wanting to contact. This is because my personal email is not working right now. Hopefully I will be able to contact him in the following week. Catch you later.

Progress

Hey there, so far I have downloaded the software I need to make the game and have messed around with it some. I have also found a company that made a great game in the same software that I plan to use. I googled them and hopefully will be able to contact one of them pretty soon. Catch you later.

Story Plan

Hey there, I have come up with a plan for my game. It is going to be a turn based adventure game. The only enemies will be inanimate objects that have come to life. Its gonna be pretty fun. Catch you later.

First Post

Hey there, this is my new blog for posting about my 20% time project. 20% time is when you take 20% of the time you spend in class or at work and put it into a project of your choice. My 20% time project is going to be about making a video game. Expect more posts about my progress coming soon. Catch you later.

20% Time Project Proposal: Making A Video Game

2/10/2017
 Joseph Freeman
Proposal: Making a video game
I would like to code an entire game.
Needs and Opportunities
Are you solving a problem for yourself or others? How will this project be a learning and growing experience? What is your goal?

I am learning for myself while also making something for others. This will be a learning experience for me because I will be learning how to code. My goal is to create a finished game.
Audience / Clients / Users
Explain who will benefit from your project. Who is your audience – who might be interested in following your blog and learning about your project?

People will benefit from my project from the great time that they had playing my game. Gamers and people who want to learn how to program in my grade might be interested in following my blog.
Mentors
Who can help you with this project? Who will you need to contact and what will you ask them to commit to in helping you?

I could try to contact people who work at gaming companies. I would ask them to give me advice on programming.
Timeline
What is your monthly timeline for this project? I want to see a list of deliverables with deadlines. You may find that the timeline needs adjustment during the course of the year, which may be fine. Check in with me if that’s the case.

Product
What is the actual product you will show this spring? This project may or may not be made of atoms or bits, but you must have something to show. I’m not interested seeing a bunch of great ideas at the end of the year. I want to see things.

I will bring my laptop and on my laptop will be the finished and playable game.
Technology
You will have to use technology in some way on presentation day – think about how you can use the tools available to add life into your project and enhance what you are doing. (Video, laptops, apps, cell phones, music, etc.)

The technology involved with my project will be my laptop.
Reality Check
I am looking for you to shoot for the moon here and do anything you can dream of, but even moonshots need budgets. What equipment are you going to need? What other capital expenditures do you anticipate, and how will you meet them?

As of right now the only equipment that I think I will need is my laptop and software to create the game. The software that I am thinking about using is already downloaded onto my laptop.
Possible Roadblocks
What other roadblocks can you predict – time, resources, motivation etc. Explain what you might do when you come to each roadblock to reach your goal.

Some roadblocks may include bugs in the games code and finding a good story. These can be overcome by double checking and brain storming.
Conclusion
Wrap it up. Why are you fired up about this project? Inspire me to support you, and give me a great reason to approve your project.

I am fired up about this project because I am a gamer and also would like to learn programming. I feel like I put enough time and effort into this project that it will turn out better than I even expected. I would like to say that I have tried to code a game at one point in my life and even say that I am proud of the game that was made.
